Overview
Developed a low-cost smart wristband prototype integrated with a web/mobile platform for real-time health monitoring and emergency handling, designed specifically for elderly users in Sri Lanka.
The project was initiated after a personal incident happened at an elderly home where I volunteered.
Features
- Health Monitoring: Biometric sensors for tracking heart rate, SpO2, and body temperature.
- Fall Detection: Advanced fall detection system using accelerometers and gyroscopes.
- Emergency Response: Real-time GPS location tracking and a panic button for immediate emergency alerts.
- Caregiver Integration: Enables caregivers to monitor health metrics, track real-time locations, and receive alerts for timely responses and improved elderly care.
Role and Achievements
- Led a team to design and build the hardware prototype and software pipeline.
- Despite funding constraints, the project achieved significant milestones and won:
- TadHack Global Award (World's largest telecom hackathon, 2021).
- TadHack National Award (2021).
Outcome
While the lack of funding limited further development into a production-ready version, the project demonstrated the potential of affordable, impactful solutions for elder care.
